At Te Kamo Kindergarten we nurture the tamariki of today in a vibrant, natural and inclusive environment. We offer opportunities for kotahitanga (to come together) through celebrations, whānau evenings and events. Our environment is evolving to further challenge, support and empower tamariki to learn and grow. Our aim is for tamariki, whānau and kaiako to feel welcome and a sense of whānaungātanga (belonging), in our calm and safe environment. We focus on upholding the mana of tamariki, whānau and kaiako through respectful, trusting relationships that enhance well-being. In doing this we hope that you will hear the manu (birds) in our rākau (trees), the laughter of our tamariki, and the supportive voices of our kaiako.
As an Enviroschool we celebrate all that has been achieved in our journey so far. We have committed to this journey and laid the foundations. We are integrating the Enviroschools kaupapa (programme) and tikanga (practices), as part of our commitment to being a sustainable kindergarten. We are doing this by actively engaging in positive and respectful relationships with our people (whānau), places and environment (te taiao). Nestled in an increasingly diverse and multicultural community, being culturally responsive is an important part of our practice. Te Ao Māori and the perspectives of all cultures represented in our community are valued and respected.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi) and Te Whariki (The New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum) underpin our philosophy. Kaiako empower tamariki to participate in meaningful ways and value their unique perspectives and insight. We create an environment, that encourages active investigation, exploration, and observation, connecting tamariki to their environment to create sustainable outcomes. Tamariki are empowered to be self-motivated learners and creative thinkers who are building resilience and self-help skills. We do this through supporting social competencies and promoting play as the vehicle for learning.
We welcome visitors at any time and invite you to call in and visit our environment, meet our tamariki and kaiako and get a real sense of who we are. Tamariki can be enrolled at any age and once enrolled will go onto the waiting list. Historically the oldest child on the list will be invited to take the next available space, however, other factors and head teacher discretion, may also at times influence this decision.
We have 4 fully qualified teachers: Paula Crump (Head Teacher), Shane Winton (Teacher), Christine Clancey (Teacher) and Caitlin Spear (Part Time Teacher). Alongside the teaching team we are also supported by Jamie Ogle (Office Administrator) who is available 3 days a week to answer any questions you may have.
We have a roll of 30 children and operate 5 days per week from 8:30am until 2:30pm.
We are operating an ALL YEAR MODEL.
We are now proud to offer FEES FREE. The children currently attending range in age from 2 years to 5 years old and we have a number of siblings, cousins and extended whānau attending.
