We have five fully qualified and fully registered teachers – Dene Cheeseman (HeadTeacher), Megan Spijkerbosch, Jo Atkins, Jodi Dunsford and Aynslie Holland – and a part time Administrator / Lunch Cover – Lisa Johnstone – all with current first aid certificates. We have a low teacher to child ratio of 1:10.
We have a lovely well resourced kindergarten with lots of outdoor space for your child to run around in. The programme offered at Hurupaki Kindergarten is child initiated and focuses on the children’s strengths and interests within a safe, fun and nurturing environment.
As a teaching team, we respect the environment and encourage children to participate in the learning process of conservation. The environment is seen as the third teacher; children should be allowed to discover, experiment with nature, to learn respect and take care of nature, the environment and what it has to offer. We are embarking on a journey of lowering our waste, reducing our use of plastic, reusing and recycling, and becoming a more environmentally sustainable kindergarten. In 2019 we signed up to the Enviroschools programme run by the Enviroschools Foundation. It is a national initiative aimed at “equipping young people with the competencies they need to be leaders in sustainability,” (Enviroschools Foundation, 2008, p.1). http://www.enviroschools.org.nz/
We have a close relationship with our kindergarten community and with the Hurupaki Primary School.
The teaching team value excellence in teaching and learning in Early Childhood Education. We are passionate, committed educators who enjoy creating an environment where we place a high value on forming trusting, respectful relationships and an atmosphere full of fun and humour.
We welcome new enrolments so come in and take a look around or give us a call or email.
We look forward to meeting you!
