Our programme is planned to meet the interests, strength and needs of the children’s intellectual, emotional, social and physical development. They have the opportunity to learn and play with and alongside other children under the skilled guidance of trained and registered teachers.
Karlene Nesbit is our head teacher along with the teaching team of Pamela Abaygar, Safari Kakara, Jennifer Ross and Ma-Cherie Cvitanovich as our support staff.
We plan to Te Whāriki – The National Early Childhood Curriculum which is based around the principles:
Kotahitanga—Holistic Development,
Whakamana—Empowerment,
Nga Hononga—Relationships and
Whanau Tangata—Family and Community.
These encompass the five strands
Mana Atua – Well Being,
Mana Whenua – Belonging,
Mana Tangata – Contribution,
Mana Reo – Communication and
Mana Aoturoa – Exploration.
Our Vision
At Selwyn Park Kindergarten our vision is to provide an inclusive welcoming whānau orientated learning environment. Tamariki are encouraged to be independent confident capable learners who observe, engage, explore and have agency for their own learning. As an Enviroschool kindergarten we endeavour to look after Papatuanuku by adopting sustainable practices and using natural resources in our play space. Through this tamariki and whānau will learn about sustainability and respect for our environment. Most of all we want learning to be a fun experience for everyone.
Ko te ahurei o te tamaiti arahia o tatoumahi Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work.
