Hikurangi Kindergarten has four qualified and registered teachers with current first aid certificates and an office administrator who works 8.30am-2.00pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Session hours are 8.45am – 2.45pm Monday to Friday. We are licensed for 2 – 6 year olds.

We have been operating an All Year Model, where we are open through the school holidays, closing for three weeks at the Christmas break.

Our kindergarten operates an open-door policy, and we welcome new whānau and tamariki to call in any time you are in the neighbourhood and meet the team.

At Hikurangi Kindergarten we believe that respectful warm relationships are core to our centre philosophy and way of being. Our philosophy is based on the early childhood curriculum Te Whāriki.

We promote and uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi by promoting a bi-cultural learning environment that recognises and celebrates Te Āo Māori. We are guided by the principles and co-components of The Hikairo Schema.

We strongly believe that it is essential that tamariki and their whānau experience an environment that upholds and values tamariki rights to freely explore in a safe and secure environment where they can learn and develop with confidence at their own pace. Along with the tamariki, we respect and care for the natural resources within our community and wider world.

We recognise individual strengths and cultures of tamariki and whānau. We will work with and alongside tamariki to extend these through a child-centred, play-based programme.

We value and welcome whānau contribution and acknowledge their aspirations for their child’s learning and development. We strive to provide tamariki and their whānau with a warm and inviting environment.
