Hillcrest Kindergarten

Raewyn, Melody, Sheryl, Angela and Leonie would like to welcome you to our warm and friendly Kindergarten, nau mai haere mai ki te kohungahunga o Hillcrest.

We are a kindergarten that is culturally diverse. Our families belong to several ethnic groups and our common theme is respecting and looking after each other. He wahi maanaki tenei mo tatou katoa.

Hillcrest Kindergarten is a community based educational provider in Kaikohe. We are based on the corner of Hillcrest and Park Roads and have been part of the community since 1953.

We provide "Kindergarten day sessions" which run from 8:30am until 2:30pm Monday to Friday although Friday sessions finish at an earlier time of 12:45pm. We also have morning sessions which run from 8:30am until 12:30pm Monday to Friday with the Friday session finishing at 12:45pm. We do have some shared places due to availability. 20 free hours ECE is available for children over 3 years of age.

Our programme is woven within the Principals and Strands of Te Whaariki, the Early Childhood Curriculum He Whaariki Matauranga mo nga Mokopuna o Aotearoa. It is an exciting sector to be involved in and teachers aim to follow children’s strengths and interests to stimulate and extend their learning within these dimensions.

You will find four very dedicated teachers who are qualified and registered who work hard to enhance learning opportunities for your tamariki. Our ratio is 1-10 and we are licenced for 40 children. We also have a very helpful support staff/admin person.

We are currently undertaking nation wide research regarding social competency, this is part of our professional development and we are very excited about the implications this will have on our tamariki at Hillcrest Kindergarten.

We have been busy in term 1 2012 with 2 bike days for the children as this is very popular, a promotional day with a bouncy castle which the children thoroughly enjoyed, a great morning out with a ride on the kawakawa train, our teacher Melody has lent some of her clucky friends to our kindergarten for the children to enjoy and they get very excited about the egg laying. We also have new outdoor and indoor equipment for the children to extend their learning.

We are currantly looking for children to join our waiting list especially 3 and 4 year olds. We pride ourselves on an open door policy for all whaanau/families community and visitors so please feel free to call in, email or phone us. Welcome Haere mai Piki mai Kake mai.
